Texarkana CDL permit and skills-test guide
Texarkana drivers have state agencies on both sides of the state line. If you hold a Texas permit, use the Texas DPS appointment system and check the test-site address on your confirmation. Call with your license class, endorsements and appointment date if you need to discuss a test truck or bus.
Choose the permit subjects for your vehicle
If you live or work near the state line, start with the state that issued your permit. For a Texas appointment, read the office address on the confirmation before you arrange a truck or bus.
Review Texas commercial vehicle operation and general knowledge. Add air brakes, combination vehicles, or passenger and school bus topics as your vehicle requires. Use the current Texas handbook alongside practice questions.

Prepare for inspection, backing and road
Work through the pre-trip in the order you can repeat aloud. On the backing exercises, account for the truck’s wheelbase and trailer swing. On the road, practice mirror checks and controlled turns in the type of vehicle you intend to test in.
On the Texas side of Texarkana, Hampton Road is the DPS address for license business. The Bowie County vehicle registration counter is on Main Street. The municipal court and Texas police share the Bi-State Justice Building on North State Line Avenue, while the federal courthouse is several blocks farther north on the same avenue.
